ABRAHAM SHORT Son of John Short was married to Margaret (Unknown) and lived in Sussex Co., Delaware in the early 1700's and his will was recorded in 1788. Illinois 5. SAMUEL SHORT PURNELL SHORT (ABOVE) was born September 29, 1779 and married Jane Butler in 1821. He came from Scott Co., Kentucky to Greene Co. by ox team in the fall of 1833 and settled one-half mile west of the Mt. Gilead Cemetery, south of Carrollton, Illinois. Record Book C-346: For a consideration of $37.00 on March 15, 1832, Purnell Short apparently took a chattel mortgage from James Self on one wagon and gears, one bay mare and sorrel mare with one eye, one sorrel horse, two beds and bedding, a table and candle stand, one sugar chest, a cupboard and other household goods and furniture. In Record Book C-566, it is recorded that on February 6, 1833, Purnell Short purchased from John Coldwell, 35 acres of land for $67.62.
