BLACK HAWK
Black Hawk was a Chief of the Sauk Indian Tribe.
He was born in 1767 along the Rock River in Illinois.
White settlers and the new United States government's claims to the land made him very angry.  He sided with the British and French in wars against the United States;
Black Hawk fought with the British in the War of 1812.
In 1832, the Illinois Militia, including young Abe Lincoln,
set out  after Black Hawk's Band forcing them north into Wisconsin and then  back toward the Mississippi.
In the Battle of Bad Axe, 150 braves and many women and children were killed or drowned in the Mississippi.
Black Hawk Died in Iowa in 1838.
