JOHN MORGAN STEWART met and courted SARAH ELMA BROWNING when he went to live with his sister, Mrs. Rice Maderis. They married on February 19, 1896 and in 1901, they moved to the Robertson farm near Orleans, Illinois and then to the farm on Mound Road in 1911. Mr. Stewart was a farmer his entire life. He also served on school boards and was one of the organizers and builders of the Diamond Grove Mausoleum. Mrs. Stewart was a charter member of the Mound Women's Country Club. The whole family was active in the First Baptist Church. |
