MRS. LUCY WOOD, BORN IN GREENE, DIES AT 84 Mrs. Lucy L. Wood died Sunday morning of bronchial pneumonia at her home in this city. Her age was 86 years. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Baptist church and were conducted by Elder T. J. Roady of Kane, assisted by Rev. W. D. Thomas. Burial was in the Maberry Cemetary. The pall bearers were grandsons, George Logan, Lloyd Admire, Frank Logan, Raymond Short, Ward Logan and Harrison March. Honorary pall bearers were younger grandsons; George Wood, Perry Wood,Jr., Billie Logan, Delbert Crabtree and Rudolph March. The flower bearers were granddaughters, Mrs. Harold Brannan, Mrs. Harold Carmody, Mrs. Otis Liles, Mrs. Julian Beem, Misses Mary Brannan, Louise Varble, Lillian Crabree, Dorothy Admire and Irma Scoggins. Mrs. Wood was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isham Adcock and was born October 15, 1848, in Greene county where her whole life was spent. She had been a resident of this city for the past twelve years. On April 2, 1867, she was married to George W. Wood, who died a number of years ago. Surviving her are eight children, Mrs. P. O. Short, Mrs. Paul Gelhausen, Mrs. Oscar Crabtree, Mrs. J. Leo Varble, Miss Elva Wood and Alva Wood of Carrollton; Perry Wood of Alton; Mrs. William Neugebauer of San Francisco, California; also 31 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Mrs. Wood united with the Pacific Union Baptist Church at the age of eighteen years and remained a faithful member until her death. Relatives from a distance who were present at the funeral were: Raymond Short, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Short, Mrs. Carol Hadlock and Frank Logan of St. Louis; Mr. and Mrs. Ward Logan of Roodhouse; Fred and Jacob Hunsicker of New Berlin; Rudolph and Harrison March and families of Alton; Mr. and Mrs. George Browning and John Browning of Farmersville; Mrs. J. C. Beem of Shelbyville. Note: The Pacific Union Church was located on what is now Rt. 108 west of Carrollton, Illinois near Eldred. It no longer exists. |
